Services for men and women with intellectual disabilities and co-occurring mental illness are available in a variety of settings and are designed to provide integrated skills development, treatment, and socialization experiences. At Horizon House our goal is to foster recovery by supporting an individual’s ability to manage their illness and achieve an enhanced quality of life.
Community Residential Services
Community Residential Services are available for adults with an intellectual disability and co-occurring mental illness. Services are designed for individuals who are willing to voluntarily participate in a supervised community residence in which meaningful work, leisure activities, medical care coordination, skill development, and financial management are encouraged. Psychiatric assessment and psychopharmacology and evidence-based therapies are also available.

Counseling
Men and women with intellectual disabilities and co-occurring mental illness who live in the community, or those considering a residential setting, may be eligible to receive ongoing counseling and psychiatric services through Horizon House. Our services include psychological assessment, individual, group or family counseling, psychiatric assessment, and psychopharmacology. Treatment is individualized and includes personal and interpersonal competency skill development.

Specialized Services for Autism
Horizon House offers specialized services for adults with an autism diagnosis who participate in Horizon House community-based residential services. Our specialized services emphasize communication and interaction with others. We use an integrated approach helping individuals adjust to change, modify behaviors, learn social competencies, and address sensory processing issues. Psychiatry and occupational therapy are available. We collaborate with families and when needed refer to external resources.

Supported Employment Services
Employment Services are available for adults with a mental health issue and also have an intellectual disability. Horizon House staff assess an individual’s interest in employment, vocational skills, and ability to obtain a job. Based on assessment results, an individualized service plan with periodic assessments is created to ensure individuals have sufficient support to obtain and remain in the workforce.
