In recognition of October as Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Horizon House staff members gladly took part in Wear Pink Day. We annually celebrate this day each October as we do our small part in raising awareness in fighting Breast Cancer. Thank you to the numerous team members, including those not pictured, who took part in this day of awareness.

Backpack Donation Courtesy of BNI Foundation
A major thank you goes out to our great friends and supporters from the BNI Foundation, who recently donated almost 100 backpacks each full of school supplies to Horizon House. These backpacks were distributed to participants and handed out at community events in recent weeks. We are so incredibly grateful for this donation that supports our participants and our neighbors in Philadelphia!
Wilmington Latin Food Festival
Members of our awesome Peer Recovery Center team were out and about in the local Wilmington community again this past weekend at the Latin Food Festival, sharing information on who Horizon House is, what we do and how we can help those in need. Spreading the word about our services is a crucial part of what we do. Its incredibly important to us to take care of members of our communities!
DBHIDS Points of Transformation Awards
Horizon House brought home the hardware at the recent Philadelphia Department of Behavioral Health and Intellectual disAbility Services Points of Transformation Awards! Horizon House had five award winners at this event, which celebrates and honors Direct Support Professionals who dedicate themselves to their communities. Featured award winners from Horizon House included Developmental Services Chief Services Officer Linda Washington Brown (Dedicated Leadership Award) and Developmental Services staff member Robert (Points of Transformation Award). We also had a featured speaker represent our Agency as Developmental Services staff member Billamin spoke at the ceremony about how important his work is to him and how he wants to positively impact all participants he serves. We are very proud of all of you for these well-deserved accolades!
In Memory of Arlene Solomon
Last week, we had the honor of hosting a dedication ceremony in memory of Arlene Solomon, a devoted Horizon House staff member who passed away in 2022. A fierce supporter of our participants and their right to education, Arlene founded our Education Plus program, which provides mobile academic and social support to participants in college or those interested in furthering their education. This program has now helped 75 participants earn degrees or post-secondary certifications. The plaque dedicated to her and the incredible impact she has left will forever hang in the Education Plus office at our New Market West Headquarters. Thank you to the Solomon family for being on hand and for the continued support of our mission. And thank you to all who came to share their memories of Arlene.
