Dr. Lawrence (Larry) Real has returned as Medical Director at Horizon House and as Director of the University of Pennsylvania’s Community Psychiatry Fellowship program.

Having accepted the position as the Chief Medical Officer for the City of Philadelphia’s Department of Behavioral Health & Intellectual disAbility Services in 2015, we are quite pleased that he has returned; bringing new knowledge and energy to Horizon House.

Dr. Real was the first psychiatrist appointed to the Horizon House Board of Directors in 2009 and joined the agency in July 2010 as the Medical Director.

 

It’s official! Horizon House became a smoke-free environment as of July 1, 2018. With the support from top management, advanced planning, and communications, allowing agency-wide feedback, we’ve made it. We recognize that choosing to become a smoke-free environment may not be easy for some, but in the long run, we know that it is the right decision for everyone. We will continue to help those that are still on the fence by offering smoking cessation classes, education materials, and other resources to help everyone with this transition. We are excited to choose a New Normal for Horizon House- breathing cleaner air.

“When you go through a dark time and cannot see any light ahead, your true friends will SHINE like diamonds.” We are grateful to call the phenomenal women of The Sophia Group friends. We thank Pat Nagor, host of Living Well with Pat Nogar for initiating the call to action immediately after being informed of the devastating recent 3-alarm fire that tore through an apartment building in Norristown, leaving the two men served by Horizon House homeless. The unbelievable response to her call resulted in three women operated businesses opening their doors to serve as collections points and the collection of clothing and loads of household goods to help replace everything lost during the fire.
